October 11, 2006 Boracay

We woke up pretty early today, 7:30am to be exact. We had to get ready for our flight to Boracay. We ate breakfast, packed and departed to the domestic terminal in Manila. When we got on the tar mat, we saw our Asian Spirit airlines plane. At the end of the flight, Anthony ended up calling it Ghetto Air. These planes were old, and 2nd hand from some Arabian company or something. For all the aisle numbers were in arabic as well as in English. Then when we took off, it was loud as heck, and well, lets just say that Darren said "I love you guys" prior to us taking off. hahaha... what a clown. Anyhow, the plane itself was leaking all over the place inside, as evident by the attached photo. It was getting all over Becky, sorry Darren stuffed that napkin in the crevice in which it was leaking. So 'Ghetto'!

Here's a photo of us (still with smiles on our faces) prior to boarding the plane:

We got to Boracay and were greeted by an employee of the resort we were staying at. It really was first class. He drove us to the docks and we took a boat to our resort. After the 25 minute boat ride, we arrived at our destination, Fridays. We were greeted with cold towels to wipe down our faces and hands, as well as glasses of dalandan juice. We walked along the white sands to the resort and checked in to our fabulous rooms.

We settled in, then headed out immediately on a snorkeling adventure. It was sunny, warm, and beautiful. Even Anthony got in the water and did some snorkeling. After a little bit of time, Lisa got used to the water and loved snorkeling. And it being my first time, I really enjoyed it as well. We had crackers that we brought below the water, and all these fish come and eat out of your hand. We were even able to lure fish into our hands… by grabbing them really quickly. It turns out that Becky’s really scared when she sees a school of fish near her. (Hehe, lots of screaming)

Here's Darren looking gay:

This is me with a fish that I was able to catch in my hand:

After our snorkeling adventure, we went back to our resort and showered and got ready for dinner. It rained really hard while we getting ready, but that was okay, because we were indoors. After the rain stopped, we went out to dinner at an authentic Filipino restaurant. We took a tricycle to our destination which was a neat experience. We had BBQ chicken, bangus (milk fish), bbq pork skewers, kinilaw (raw fish), fresh fruit shakes, kangkong (veggies), and some soup. Lisa ate like a queen, she seems to be eating way more than usual on this trip, especially in the Philippines. She loves the food here, I think she really misses Filipino food. I have to say I love the food too. It’s nice to experience a bunch of foods that you’ve never experienced before. And as you’ll notice from previous posts, the underlying theme of this trip is FOOD. We are trying all the local dishes from every destination that we’ve been to and will be going to.

After dinner, we walked around the main strip of Boracay. We were pretty exhausted, so we decided to call it a night. Bedtime was 11pm.

Today, ended up being the first day where I felt we were actually on vacation. I think maybe it’s because of the sun, the relaxation, the white sand, the blue water. It’s like a vacation within a vacation. I’m glad we decided to go to a resort while were on this trip. We got to get away from the big cities and the hustle and bustle. I would recommend to anyone planning a vacation in the future, to plan a vacation within a vacation. =)

More photos of the resort!

Till tomorrow!
