October 12, 2006 Boracay Day 2

It’s really weird that the guys are waking up earlier than the girls. These are the guys who don’t wake up till noon at home! Darren called us twice early in the morning at about 7:30 to wake us up. Our snorkeling guide yesterday was trying to sell us an island hopping tour so we ended up calling him in the morning and telling him we’re game for it.

Had a great Filipino breakfast in the hotel restaurant before leaving on the tour – tocino, longanisa, beef tapas – all with garlic rice with egg on top!! Nice! I much prefer this breakfast over continental breakfast any day!

At about 10am, we went to meet our guide and hopped into his little boat. We stopped in the middle of the water somewhere to do some fishing. It’s basically a line wrapped around a plastic bottle but it works really well! Well, not for everyone – Anth, Bex and Darren didn’t catch anything. It was a little hard to feel the fish biting. I’m proud to say I caught the biggest fish (I think I did)! But Wes caught the prettiest one – we named it Nemo. Ha! And no, we didn’t eat any of the fish we caught (but I think our guide did). Oh I think Anth caught an itsy-bitsy one while we were snorkeling.

After fishing, we went to a beach called Puka Beach. Early in the morning before we left for the tour, our guide went to the market and bought us fresh seafood for lunch – crab, prawns, squid, fish, pork, clams. So when we got to Puka Beach, he went to shore and cooked for us so we can have a seafood picnic after snorkeling!

The water was a lot clearer today. Snorkeling was much better than it was yesterday! There were schools and schools of fish, and corals all over the bottom of the sea. I love snorkeling! I love feeding the fish our of my hands..soo cool.

Done snorkeling and time for seafood picnic by the shore! We had a feast! Fresh seafood is awesome. Anthony liked the crab the best, Wes and I liked the prawns the best. What a great meal by the water!

That's me below still eating after everyone else had left the table. I am totally out-eating Wes. That never happens back home!!! I'm gonna get so fat.

Took a quick dip in the water while we waited for our guide to finish eating, then we were off again. Just to give you an idea of how cheap our island hopping adventure was today – it cost us about $15 each person – for our tour, seafood picnic, fishing, AND snorkeling!

We were originally going to do some water sports, but we were pooped so decided to go back to our hotel and get massages. We laid out some towels along the beach, and got our massages in front of the water. AHHH.. nice and relaxing! Nice weather, good view, massage by the beach – all for $8 cdn!! Can’t beat that. Except Anthony got a stinky lady working on him. I’m glad I didn’t get her! And I didn’t like that they used coconut oil all over me..even my face. Gawd not only will I be fat and dark when I get home, now I’ll also be pimply! After the massages, Dar and Anth took a dip in the pool without taking a shower first and left a film of oil in the water! Yuck!

Here's a pic of Wes after the massage:

For dinner, we went to a place called Jonah’s because everyone raves about the shakes there. Took a tricycle there, which took like 3 minutes. Shakes there WERE good! Wes and I each had 2 shakes. I was full on that alone, but we also ordered Filipino food for dinner. Dinner was just ok. Last night’s dinner at Bacolod Chicken was much better.

So there’s a bar called Cocomangas where you can pay $20 bucks for 15 shots of tequila. And if you drink it all within 2 minutes, you get your name forever etched on the wall. Wall of fame! We were trying to get Anth to do it and I think he was close to because he totally wanted his name on the wall. But he didn’t. Booooooo. I woulda tried it but I would died for sure. Darren Doo wouldn’t do it either.

Went back to the hotel after and went straight to bed. It’s been a long day but it’s been awesome!! =(( leaving tomorrow! Waaaahhh.
