My turn to post again (Wes)... We woke up fairly late again today... Anth and I had to go get fitted into our suits that Dom is getting made for us. Yeah, that's right, Dom is paying for 2 suits, and dress shirts (with the french cuffs and all) for both Anthony and myself. I feel bad, because he could have just rented some suits for us, but nope, he decided to go the whole 9 yards. (Thanks Dom) After that, Anth and I split up, he went to Mong Kok to meet up with Darren and Becky, and I walked back to the hotel to pick up Lis. We all kind of split up today. Dar, Becks, Anth, Jimmy T, and Christina shopped all day. Tammy, Terry, and Ron went sight seeing at Lantau Island and saw the big Buddha there. Lisa and I went to see my relatives.
Alfred (my cousin from Toronto) arrived today in HK with his girlfriend Lily. So we met up with them and my Aunty Agnes for Dim Sum at the Shamrock Hotel. Wow, I couldn't believe the resemblance to my koo koo back home (my deaf aunt). If I were to see them on the street, I would definitely mistaken one for the other. It was nice seeing my aunt again. I hadn't seen her in years. She looks good too! Of course I couldn't have her pay for the bill, so I gladly ripped the bill away from her hand and paid for lunch. (when I was a little kid, I always wondered why Chinese people fought to pay the bill, now i know why) It was defintely alot cheaper than the meal that I paid for the night before (the meal yesterday was $240ish CDN for 4 people!), but that's okay because, I don't think I'll be eating anymore lavish, expensive meals after that one.
After lunch, Lisa and I took Lily and Alfred to TST (Tsim Sha Tsui) to visit their friend who owns a clothing store in the district. After dropping them off there, Lisa and I ventured off on our own, and walked to the harbour. We took pictures from the Kowloon side to the HK Island side. It was rather foggy/poluted, so we weren't able to get many clear photos. Oh well. After walking around the harbour, we decided to walk a little futher, and came upon the Avenue of Stars. Gosh, what a lame excuse for a walk of fame. It's kind of like the hollywood walk of stars where they put their hand prints on the ground, blah blah blah. They have it here for all the famous cantonese/mandarin actors. Lame! It's so sparse, cause there are so few, and well... Lets just say that Lisa and I left there pretty quickly.
We took the MTR to Mong Kok to meet up with the other guys. We ended up eating some more of the fish balls, etc by the street side vendors again. Yumm! I don't think they have street hawkers anymore with the carts and stuff. Oh well, these street side stores are a lot more sanitary and clean anyhow. It'll make my Mom feel a little more comfortable knowing that I'm not eating from those old chinese ladies' carts.
While waiting for the other guys outside the MTR station, I took some photos of Lisa with her new camera. Check em' out:
Immediately after eating fish balls, and intestine, we went to... guess what?!?!... eat some more! We went to a cafe which was immediatley adjacent to us, it was called Cafe de Coral. We ate BBQ pork, Soy Chicken, Hainan Chicken. You know, the food here isn't anything special. Food back home is actually better. I didn't realize how spoiled we were back home with all the different types of cuisine, and the quality of all the food! However, with that said, it's not like the food that we've been consuming in HK has been of poor quality... it just hasn't been fabulous like it was in Manila.
After eating, we walked around Mong Kok for a bit, walking in and out of stores, checking out Bossini, G2000, Giordano... you know, all the HK 'Gap' type stores. Terry, Tammy, and Ron then called me, and I went to get them. We were all one big group again. Anth happened to see a store called Sino Centre, which he recalled sold pirated DVD movies, etc... so we decided to head in. We ended up spending quite a bit of freaking time there, because Jimmy T ended up buying a modded DSLite, and I bought a modded Pink DSLite for Lisa. After an hour of haggling, and back and forth, we finally left with the DS' in hand.
aside: I've been using a lot more cantonese back in HK. I thought my cantonese was actually a lot worse than it is. I'm surprised I'm able to get by, and communicate fairly well with the locals here. It's funny that alot of our friends are pointing to me to do the talking in cantonese for the group. hahaha.... nonetheless, Mom and Dad would be fairly proud that their son can speak 10% of the cantonese dialect. hehe
So after the bargaining session, what else was there to do, but to eat yet again! Terry brought us to Fo Tan, which is in the new territories up north by Sha Tin. We took 2 cabs, shoving 5 people in each cab, and we were on our way. Terry sure picked a gem. It was like an outdoor restaurant, which was totally budget. Stools for seats, tables with uneven legs, plastic posing as table cloth, and a bunch of locals! What better place to eat than where the locals eat, right? And we weren't disappointed! Pigeon, Lai Liew Ha (Pissing shrimp), conch, chicken congee, really soft deep fried tofu that melted in your mouth, etc. Great food, great price, great atmosphere, and great friends... what more can you ask for??? This was definitely by far, the best meal in HK so far. You can ignore what I said above, about how food has been realitvely mediocre thus far... actually, check that... lets just see how tomorrow goes first, then we can revisit that issue then.
We decided not to cab back to our hotel, so we took the KCR (Kowloon Canton Railway) which is basically the train which brings you to and from the New Territories up North. So we headed back south to Kowloon Tong, and then took the connecting MTR back to Jordan, and to our hotel.
It was another full day today. I'm exhausted. See you tomorrow.. time to ZZZZzzzzzzzzz....
