OFF TO ASIA!
October 4, 2006 Vancouver (Happy Birthday Dad!)
Finally the day is here! We’ve been planning our Asia trip forever so we’re glad it’s finally time to leave. Our flight is at 11am, and Erica was nice enough to come early and drive us to the airport. What a sweetheart she is.
So we were very excited to fly business class on points. First of all, I have to say getting to check in first and avoiding the line is AWESOME! We flew Air Canada, and sad to say our expectations weren’t met (mind you we didn’t expect much out of AC). We visited the AC lounge after checking in. We’ve been to the lounge in the domestic terminal and that was way bigger and nicer than this one! Kinda disappointed but you can’t beat free food and free Internet and free booze! Of course I raided the food aisle and had cereal, salad, kimchi noodles, minestrone, toast……Had to kill time so I played around with the new SLR camera that Wes got me for the trip!
Finally it was time to board the plane. We were greeted with champagne and orange juice! Great start to the flight. Our seats were very roomy and comfy – definitely not have any problems sleeping. However, it didn’t take us long to realize that there was no power outlet for Wes’ laptop. It was so dumb because you needed this special plug and of course they sell it on the SkyMall but they don’t have any in-flight! He was NOT happy. That means we only have a couple of hours of battery time to watch our shows and we have an 11 hour flight ahead of us! And we don’t have personal TVs, and didn’t like any of the movies they were showing.
Seeing the menu perked us up though! I was just planning to eat and get FAT during this trip and the in-flight menu got me all excited. Trying to remember, I think we had 4-5 courses. Food in the pictures below looks better than it tasted. Wes’ Japanese meal was lacking, and my steak was too well done. We were stuffed though. And the cheese plate and ice cream was yummy! I LOVE cheese. So that made my meal.
Lights off after lunch and we got our 5 hours of sleep. I think I got a little more than Wes did. Wine made me sleepy.
Got up and watched a couple of episodes of Weeds before our battery ran out. Thank god Wes brought his laptop. He’s so smart! S-M-R-T. Or else we would have no shows to watch OR Internet access. Now he’s getting on my case about not bringing mine because I keep hogging his. Haha! He gets to carry the laptop and I get to use it.
So all in all, our flight was less than stellar for executive class, but can’t complain since it’s still way better than economy!
Finally, we land in OSAKA!
