October 24, 2006 Koh Samui Day 3….

It’s Lisa again today. Woke up around 9:45 today to go for breakfast. Tammy, Chris and James were already there by the time we got there, but everyone else came by after. There was a Caucasian couple who sat in between our tables, and embarrassingly enough they moved to a different table because it was too loud! We were looking at videos Henry took of the night before and cracking up so I think we were making too much noise. Oh well. Wes and I had packed a suitcase full of dirty clothing with us to breakfast and walked along the strip after to get it washed. I was quite worried that they would shrink all my clothes! They basically weigh the clothing and then charge you by weight. Wes and I should have counted how many pieces we had, but ended up being too lazy to do it – so hopefully we get it all back!

After dropping off our laundry, we took a detour and went to an internet place – 1baht per minute! So cheap. That’s like $2 for every hour of Internet. We went back to the hotel after and met everyone else there. Everyone played in the pool – we played pig and that was my workout! Wes, Dar, Bex, and James went kayaking. Thank God I didn’t go. I knew it would be really tiring, and Wes came back complaining about James being a lazy partner. I would have been worse! Chris, Tams, and I ended up ordering some food by the pool, so that held us off for a couple of hours since we didn’t have any lunch yet. And by this time, it was already about 5pm.

We all went back to our room to get changed and decided to meet at around 8pm. So Wes, Tams, Ter, Anth and I went along the strip first to look for a massage place and finally found a place called East Meets South. Wes and I decide on a deep Thai massage and we get taken inside where the beds are curtained off. The place is quite dark, so it was actually very relaxing. They used tiger balm instead of oil, and used their knees, knuckles, elbows to massage us. It didn’t actually hurt like I thought it would. The massage lasted about an hour and it cost us about $15. I should say I actually got a couple of bruises after this massage that I didn’t notice until the next day! Pretty big ones too.

So after the massage, we went to an internet café to wait for the other guys. The spa we went to recommended a place called Ark Bar so we decided to check it out. We walked along the beach to an area full of restaurants by the water. It was actually really nice. I can’t believe we only found this strip on our last night! Finally, after a few blocks of open restaurants on the beach, there was Ark Bar! It was the busiest restaurant there and it was full of tourists. We split up into two tables and ordered our own dishes. But somehow our table was too slow and the other guys ordered what was left of the jumbo prawns. Nothing left for us! Boo! So Terry ended up going to the restaurant next door and ordering prawns to go. Haha. This was our best meal so far in Koh Samui. We had lots of seafood, and the setting on the beach was perfect. Until it started to rain!! We ate fast and left because when it rains here, it pours.

Wes and I wanted to go back for massages again =) so we split off from the rest of the group and went our own way. But when we got to the massage place, they were super busy! I guess everyone else had the same idea since it was raining. So we just went back to our room and called it an early night at about 11pm. The rest of the other guys went back to the hotel as well, but they also went out for a late pancake snack after. There are these street vendors that sell pancakes with filling. It kinda has the texture of Malay bread, very thin, and crispy. So good with Nutella, banana, and condensed milk!

Anyway, that was the end to our night. Boo we leave tomorrow!! =(
