Today is Dom's wedding. Anth and I woke up fairly early to get ready to go to the church. The church is in Wan Chai, and we took a cab there along with Henry. The ceremony itself went fairly smooth. Lieny looked beautiful of course, and Dom was dashing. Since we were in the wedding party, it was pretty neat to be able to share in the event. Dom didn't cry, he was quite manly in fact.
After some group photos, we got into a 8 person Mercedes limousine and proceeded to lunch. There was also a bus that picked up everyone else and drove them to lunch. The restaurant was really nice. There was a Thai style buffet with excellent seafood and soups. The tom yum goong (or whatever you're supposed to call it) was great. After lunch, we walked outside of the restaurant and in and around the venue there were waterfalls, greenery... etc. The photographer made us do all this freaking gay stuff... ie. run, jump, walk fast, pose, blah blah blah. It was kind of uncomfortable. It didn't help that we were all in black suits, and thick shirts and it was damn hot! Anthony of course was sweating like he always does.
Anthony was in charge of Dom's marriage certificate which he mistakenly forgot at lunch. However, I picked it up and gave it to Terry. I wanted to play a prank on Anthony, because without the document, Dom's marriage isn't really official. Anyhow, to make a long story short, the prank didn't turn out the way I wanted. Anth told Dom, then ran back to the restaurant before I could catch up to them and tell them I had it... and well... Anth was pissed to say the least! Anyhow.... my bad. I apologized to the both of them, but I don't think Anthony is going to forgive me. Anth, if you're reading this... I'm sorry!
After lunch, we got back into the cars and went over to the Star Ferry Terminal to take some more photos.... and do some more gay running, walking, posing, jumping. We picked up some ice cream and drinks along the way, and took photos for another 30 minutes. It was okay.. hopefully the photos will look better than how I felt when we were taking them.
After the photo shoot, we were on our way to the actual reception venue at Repulse Bay. We arrived at the hotel and had about an hour to rest. Let me tell you, the room that Lieny and Dom had was awesome! An unbelievable, breathtaking view. It was on the top floor of the hotel which overlooked all of beaches and ocean on the south side of Hong Kong Island. Anthony slept for about 1.5 hours in his drenched, sweaty shirt. Dom, Frank, and myself were all rehearsing our speeches.
At about 5:30PM, we headed downstairs to the garden area where there were cocktails being served. People mingled, while enjoying the sunset and listening to the sound of live jazz playing in the background. First class all the way Dom! Cocktail hours went on till about 7PM. After that, it was time for the reception.
The sequence of events? Well, first, their growing up slideshow was played. Tammy and Dom's co-worker Kent were the MC's for the event. Let me tell you, the crowd was definitely very subdued and conservative. It was pretty difficult to get any sort of reaction from the crowd, let along laughter. It kind of made me nervous about my speech. I think I went to the washroom to No.2 about 3 times prior to speaking. hahaha...
Dinner was served. The food was excellent. Lisa really enjoyed the lobster bisque. She had 2 bowls! And if Lisa has 2 of anything, you know it must be good. There was lobster, shrimp, beef wellington.... etc. It was a nice spread indeed.
Speeches now followed. Kelly and the bridesmaids prepared an animated slideshow... this was because they didn't want to speak... embarrassed I presume, and I didn't blame them! It was basically animated characters of Dom, and Lieny and the bridesmaids. Very cute indeed.
After that, it was Sweena's turn to talk (Lieny's maiden of honour), who did an excellent job in her speech. It of course made Lieny cry!
Now it was unfortunately my turn. I did okay I guess… the crowd didn’t laugh at all my jokes, but most. I don’t know.. I guess you can ask our friends how I did. Hehe. They played my slideshow right after my speech. (Hopefully they liked it)
Frank (dom’s younger bro and the best man) proceeded to speak. He was excellent, and does a dead on impersonation of Dom. It was funny, and serious. Speeches are tough, but he did a magnificent job.
Last but not least, it was Dom’s turn. Dom’s speech was very touching. He spoke in English, but when it came to thanking his parents, he spoke in Korean. He got teary eyed while doing so, and even though I don’t know a word of Korean, I was very touched. His mom was crying, and Frank said his Dad came close. Dom concluded by thanking his new wife. He said the sweetest words to her… he really did a great job. Here's Frank with his parents:
The funniest part of the night happened at this point. Dom sang. It wasn’t Dom’s singing that was funny… it was when the band played. The band wasn’t playing what Dom was supposed to sing to. Dom kind of just stood there puzzled. Looked at the band and their music sheet while they kept playing. They were supposed to play 98 Degrees, I do… but it sounded nothing like it. Dom went on to say “Ladies and Gentleman, you have just witnessed the most embarrassing moment of my life”. The crowd just howled.. hahaha… so funny. Dom, with all his guts and glory, decided to sing acapella!! He did a great job too. Good job Domster!
The dancing began, and ended. We called it a night at about midnight. Most people went home. While Lisa, and myself went to the karaoke bar with Anth, Ron, Terry, Dalida, and Kerena. Dom, Tammy and Lieny were to meet up with us after… but Lisa and I were pretty tired so we took a cab back to our hotel. That was Dom’s wedding day.
Congratulations Lieny and Dom!!!!!! Welcome to the club!
